Discovergulfislands.com was started in June 2009 by Jonathan Lane (living on Mayne Island). Our goal is to become the best online resource for information about living in and visiting Canada’s Southern Gulf Islands.
Strictly speaking, we’re not a travel and tourism web site. We don’t provide listings of all of the businesses in the Southern Gulf Islands (for that, check the local Chamber of Commerce web sites). Rather, we write about our personal experiences living on the islands, and what life is like here. Tourists always ask “what’s it like living here year-round?” We’ll see if we can provide some insight.
We’re currently looking for folks interested in writing about virtually any topic related to our central theme of “living on and visiting the Southern Gulf Islands”. If you’re looking for a place to write about any of the activities that interest you, please get in touch.

I’ve lived on Mayne Island full time for 2 years now. My family and I moved from Lethbridge, Alberta to Mayne to start a new life after living in Lethbridge for about a decade. I run my own company out of my home (Industry Interactive Inc.) and I work part-time for the Blue Vista Resort/Mayne Island Kayaking. In the interest of full disclosure, I’ll remind you of this if I should write anything about accommodations or recreation on the island.
I’m father to two crazy kids, Reilly (5) and Parker (3), who seem to love living here as much as I do.
My personal blog can be found over at Flyingtroll.com, and I can be reached by e-mail at jonathan (dot) lane (at) gmail (dot) com.
